  • The new Kirin A1 SoC powers the FreeBuds 3 and Huawei Watch GT 2.
  • FreeBuds 3 comes with ANC and Bluetooth 5.1 support.

Huawei could be planning to announce its Kirin A1 chipset in India this week. The company wants to “create a new ecosystem in India” according to a press invite sent out this week. While Huawei has not confirmed what it plans to announce exactly, it is reportedly gooing to be the new Kirin A1 chipset. With this, Huawei could soon also launch some Kirin A1-powered devices like the FreeBuds 3 and Watch GT 2.

Huawei announced the new Kirin A1 chipset at IFA 2019 in September. The chipset rivals Apple’s H1 processor that powers the AirPods. The Kirin A1 is the world’s first headphone-centric processor to support Bluetooth 5.1. It also offers low latency and ultra high-definition audio output, among other things. 91mobiles reports based on a “reliable source” that the Kirin A1 SoC will be launched in India this week.

The Kirin A1 chipset powers the FreeBuds 3, which are the world’s first open-fit active noise cancelling headphones. In addition to offering ANC and an open-fit design, the FreeBuds 3 also comes with 190ms latency. FreeBuds 3 comes in a circular charging case that can extend the battery life of the earbuds from 4 hours to 20 hours.

Another wearable that is powered by the Kirin A1 SoC is the Watch GT 2. Huawei launched the Watch GT 2 smartwatch in September as well touting an impressive 14-day battery life. It comes in 46mm and 42mm dial sizes and sports a circular OLED display. The Watch GT 2 42mm is priced at EUR 229 (approx Rs 17,500) while the 46mm variant costs EUR 249 (approx Rs 19,500).

Huawei has shown a lot of interest in expanding its product portfolio in India. It launched the Watch GT, Band 3 Pro and Band 3e in India back in March, so it seems extremely likely that the company will add the FreeBuds 3 and Watch GT 2 to its portfolio in India before 2019 comes to an end.
